Sally Hornick Anderson, SPHR Sally Anderson is excited to be a part of thinkChicago and would have loved its resources when she moved to Chicago 8 years ago. She is a HR Business Partner for Google. She was previously the Senior HR Manager for the Global Technical Services division of DoubleClick, and also has supported DoubleClick Performics. Before joining DoubleClick, Sally worked in Human Resources for Hyatt Hotels Corporation's Corporate Office. Sally graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management. Sally has her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification. She is the President of the Society of Human Resources Professionals and is a member of the Society of Human Resources Managers. Sally chairs the Daffodil Days of Chicago Committee for the American Cancer Society and has been involved in the committee for the past six years. Sally is also the Past President of the Greater Chicago Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association. She was recognized as the 2005 Recent Alumnus of the Year by the Penn State Alumni Association. Jeff Ellman A serial entrepreneur, Jeff Ellman has started and successfully grown four businesses by the age of 30. The companies that he founded are Humatal, Homescout Realty, Launch Events and thinkChicago. Jeff is a nationally recognized speaker on the topic of recruiting and was the key note speaker for the Eli Broad School of Business at Michigan State University in 2007. He currently sits on the board of directors for the Right Angle Foundation and serves as the Executive Director of ThinkChicago.org, an educational organization endorsed by Mayor Richard Daley. He is an active member of Vistage, the world’s largest chief executive organization. Jeff is a graduate of the Eli Broad Business School at Michigan State where he received a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in sales and marketing. Throughout his life, Jeff has played a wide variety of sports. He spends most of his spare time playing basketball, golf, volleyball and tennis. Dan Hughes
Dan Hughes is a founder and President of Laurus Strategies. He is responsible for orchestrating the mergers and acquisitions that make up Laurus Strategies today. He is also responsible for directing the organization to become one of the fastest growing consulting and professional services firms. Dan works diligently for the development and growth of Laurus Strategies employees to afford them the time to provide unprecedented service to our clients. His greatest pride is not in the accomplishments listed below, but in the accomplishments listed in the bios of the employees of Laurus Strategies. Dan has been involved in the insurance industry at a high level for the past 15 years in many key aspects of the business including sales, service, underwriting and operational structure. He is responsible for developing several multimillion dollar businesses in multiple cities across the country. He has received many awards and accolades throughout the industry. Dan currently sits on boards for non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, and community organizations. He has a strong belief in the importance of being a true participant in crucial community services and brings that commitment to the organization. Dan graduated with a double major in Business and Sociology from Lake Forest College, IL. Brad Karsh Brad Karsh is President and Founder of JobBound and JB Training Solutions, companies dedicated to helping individuals succeed in the job search and in the workplace. An industry expert in his field and an accomplished public speaker and author, Brad Karsh has been featured on CNN, CNBC, and The Dr. Phil Show, and has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, New York Times, USA Today, and many others. Brad is an advice columnist for both Yahoo! and AdAge, and he is author of Confessions of a Recruiting Director (Prentice Hall Press, 2006). Prior to starting JobBound and JB Training Solutions, Brad spent 15 years at advertising giant Leo Burnett in Chicago. He began his career in Account Management, working on clients including McDonald’s, Procter & Gamble, and Pillsbury. He then moved into HR where he was responsible for hiring and training hundreds of employees. Brad graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut with a B.A. in History and currently resides in Chicago with his wife Lisa and son Milo.
